Fylde 2nds 19 v 20 Sedgley 2nds

Sedgley Cling on in Thriller

In a keenly contested match Sedgley dug deep to firstly overcome a 14-10 deficit and hold on at the end to win by a point.

In the first 20 choosing to play with a strong wind Fylde put early pressure on the Sedgley defence and scrum. Sedgley fought hard in the scrums to a dominant Fylde and relieved their lines with some good running, not least powerful No8 Matt Lamprey who made a 70yard break to be caught on the opponent's line by what some of the players claimed was there prop. Others swear it was actually the Stig!

Sedgley worked hard in defence with Leighton Taylor inviting is opposite number to sit down with a big hit. A stroke of fortune then handed the lead to Fylde. Sedgley worked hard to use an overlap in their own 22 only for the ball to cannon off Matt Lamprey's head into the Fylde wingers arms for him to go in for a converted try.

Sedgley then took their turn to test a resolute Fylde defence battering away at the opposition line for the final period of the first period. Rob Lee finally scoring a deserved try converted by Kohler to end the half 7-7.

Early in the second half now playing with a faltering wind at their backs Sedgley took an early lead with a Penalty by Kohler. Fylde then absorbed more Sedgley pressure and continued to pressure on the Sedgley scrimmage. This eventually told when an excellent break by the Fylde 9 resulted in a converted try for Fylde to the take the lead 14-10. Game on!

With the game going into the final quarter Sedgley had to dig deep and pick up the pace. A quickly taken tap penalty resulted in good yards being made, when then the quick ball that the 18 year old half back Harrison and Kohler had yearned for was produced it was Kohler who made a neat break to score under the posts. Kohler added the extras and 5 minutes later added a penalty. For a 20-14 lead with 10 minutes on the clock.

Fylde would not sit down and game back at Sedgley. Their endeavours resulting in a pushover try just when a 5 yard scrum resulted from a probing Fylde kick. Just reward for the Fylde front row who had dominated the scrum all day.

With slender 20-19 lead it was for Sedgely to absorb more Fylde pressure eventually bundling Fylde into touch to the elation (relief) of the Sedgley team.

Kohler ended the game with an excellent 15 point haul credit must also go to Livesey, Clegg and Smith for some top lineout work but praise must go to all the Sedgley Team for digging deep to produce a win against a good "up for it!" Fylde side. Both sides a credit to their Clubs.
