Using the league structure, decided at the League Committee meeting on 28th April, I set up the teams in each league in my spreadsheet. Each league has two files.

One, file 'T', contains the team names,
The team letters corresponding to the team names,
Number promoted and relegated in that league,
Sponsor's name and web address,
Name of the league,
Number of the league,
Points for a win, draw and loss in the league,
League Sec's name and 'phone numbers,
Number of teams in the league,
Number of fixtures,
Whether games played on Saturday or Sunday.

The other file 'F' contains the fixture structure. The format of the file is:-

  • Column 'A' is the RFU week number
  • Column 'B' is the fixture date,
  • Column 'C' is the home team name 'Looked up' from the 'T' file,
  • Column 'D' is the home team score,
  • Column 'E' is the letter 'v',
  • Column 'F' is the away team score,
  • Column 'G' is the away team name 'Looked up' from the 'T' file,
  • Column 'H' is to signify with a letter:
    • 'r' if there is a report for this game,
    • 'a' if the away team did not have a front row,
    • 'h' if the home team did not have a front row.
  • Column 'I' is where any points are added or deducted for the home team,
  • Column 'J' is the letter of the home team,
  • Column 'K' is blank,
  • Column 'L' is the letter of the away team,
  • Column 'I' is where any points are added or deducted for the away team.
The letters of the teams are used to 'Lookup' the names from the file 'T', this makes editing easier because only the team letters have to be changed and the team names then automagically change.
