Miller Homes Leagues Division 2, 10th Nov 2007Leigh 4ths 8 v 7 Vale of Lune 3rds
Vale 3rds were meeting a side who have been playing particularly well in this League. Leigh were a huge physical side up front and it became clear that Vale needed to move the ball wide to reduce the impact of Leigh's pack. The game reflected the score 8 points to 7 points to Leigh. A dour tight game wind affecting the attempts of both sides to play some open rugby. Attempts by Vale to move the ball away from tight positions were easily smothered by a hard tackling Leigh side. Leigh were well organised and had obviously played together as a side for some time, this becoming clearer as the game progressed. Vale managed to hold them to 8 points and in the closing minutes were denied a try, but came back quickly to score a legitimate one in the closing minutes to take their score to within one point of Leigh, the conversion being successful. The return fixture should prove to be an interesting confrontation. Fred Swarbrick
