Peter Tustin arrived at Vale with his side a little late. Problems raising a side but he indicated to Referee that as soon as they were changed the game should commence.

Vale knew that they were going to be in for a most competitive game having experienced Leighs enthusiasm some two or three weeks previous. Vale had prepared well. Aaron Melville their Skipper had ensured that the Vale players would be ready for this match.

From the first whistle it became clear that Vale were not going to allow Leigh much room to develop their play. Hard tackling and more importantly up first tackling both by the forwards and backs were limiting Leigh to get any cohesive play into their game.,p> The Vale pack were dominating the Leigh eight in the early stages and were providing a secure platform for the Vale threequarters to play attractive rugby.

Jamie Antcliffe at scrum half a new position for him was providing a stream of good reliable ball to his threequaters which they were using to advantage.

Vale continued to play some exciting attacking Rugby causing the efficient experienced Leigh side continuing problems and were well worth their victory on the day.

Thanks to Tony Holt for handling the game so well, and there's no doubt the Leigh side will enjoy more successful days than this.

Excuse the pics. Tony Holt directing the game. Paul Batty Vales assistant Manager enjoying the game, and finally Linda Antcliffe who supports her husband as 4th XV Skipper and Jamie her son week in week out throughout the season. What a girl !!!
