Dear Sponsor,
My name is Robert Jones and in July this year my team mate Chase Ashton and I will be kayaking across the English Channel to raise money for the above charities.
As you may well be aware, Help for Heroes provides rehabilitation and care for injured servicemen and women returning from conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan. It has been made popular by the ‘X-Factor finalists releasing a song, with all of the proceeds going to the Heroes.
The Orchid Cancer Appeal helps fund research into the causes and treatment of cancers affecting the male population. Statistics show that about 2000 men aged 14-45 will be diagnosed during 2009.
The RFU Injured Players Foundation (RFUIPF) helps people who have suffered life threatening injuries whilst playing the game of Rugby. They do anything to make their clients’ lives happier. A couple of years ago a young man broke his neck and the RFUIPF helped buy a pet dog for him for example.
Chase and I have decided on these 3 charities because each one has a meaning to the both of us. I have a very good friend who is serving in the Parachute Regiment and I would like to know that anyone risking their lives fighting for their country can be promised the best care, should anything happen to them.
Being young men twinned with the national awareness of Cancer, we feel that these organisations need as much funding as they can possibly get.
Both myself and Chase play rugby for Wilmslow Rugby Club and whilst every precaution is taken to prevent serious injury, it does still happen. A gentleman from Sandbach Rugby Club broke his neck playing rugby this season and it is people like him and his family that we are trying to help as best we can.
Our Channel Crossing takes place between 12th and 20th July this year. We will be setting off from Sapphire Hoe in Kent and aiming for Dunkirk. We have been given this ‘tidal window’ so we can wait for the best weather which will therefore make our crossing the safest.
We have been raising money as best we can since January this year and despite our best efforts we are struggling to reach our target. As a legal requirement we must be accompanied by a Safety Boat and this alone costs £1500. We have approached numerous companies in a bid to gain a large sponsor but due to the current financial climate, it has proven very difficult.
Chase and I are appealing to your good nature to ask if you could help us in any way you can. We desperately need to reach our targets not for ourselves but for the many people we are trying to help.
I have provided you with all of my contact details below and I look forward to your response with great anticipation.
