Fleetwood 2nd XV 23 v 13 Vale of Lune 4th XV

Vale of Lune 1sts Off, Vale of Lune 2nds Off, Vale of Lune 3rds Off. Message came through from Fleetwood - Pitch playable- get your 4ths over here.

Paul Antcliffe and Dave Harrison were to say the least happy they were going to get a game.jpg - Fleetwood 1

Referee Tony Holt sets the scrum

They'd managed to select their regular side, lads that continue to play for this side regularly both Home and Away. They have built a tremendous spirit in the side and were looking forward to increase their win tally.jpg - Fleetwood 2

Now look lads next offence will be a yellow card !!

The Fleetwood side of course had different ideas, they are in touch of promotion and they must have felt they were in with a chance against the Vale side which after 4 consecutive victories had moved out of the Relegation places in the League.

The game set off at a tremendous pace and it soon became clear, the Vale eight were going to provide the Fleetwood eight with huge problems. The Fleetwood threequarters with ball in hand showed a lot of pace and determination, and were going to cause the Vale threequarters problems with their sheer pace.jpg - Fleetwood 3

Look at the tunnel. Was it like this in our day ???

These two aspects were going to determine the outcome of the game. In the first 40 minutes the Vale eight dominated the set play and starved  the Fleetwood threequarters of any useful ball.  Having said that they did go over for two tries and put a penaly over to move to 13 points at the half. At this time Vale had gone over for a try and also converted a penalty.

Half time score 13 points to 8 points to Fleetwood.

The second half opened with a tremendous effort from the Vale eight which culminated in a try wide out, taking the score to 13 points each. The Vale eight were clearly the dominant force. Following a fracas at a lineout Referee Tony Holt who in fact was enjoying a fine game had to issue a Red card to a Fleetwood Prop. It is to the Fleetwood sides credit that although being out played up front they didn't resort to the fall back of uncontested scrums. In the situation they were in and undergoing consistent pressure they could easily have taken this option.

The Vale side were tiring after missing a lot of games over recent weeks and a number of individual strong runs from their threequarters came to nothing, they were under a lot of pressure.jpg - Fleetwood 5

Fleetwood secure the ball from a lineout !!

Fleetwood at last realised the pace they had outside and began to move the ball about freely. A sharp break from their alert scrum half resulted in a try and then a terrific move across the line of their threequarters resulted in a fine try.

Result 23 to 13 to Fleetwood..

The Vale team were in touch throughout the game, they on this performance will move up the table, the Fleetwood side could well gain promotion this season.
